19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive approach and regular emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a final set.

The opponent saved four early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
